Diving
The Toberua Passage is within minutes of the Island, offering more than 20 varied dive sites from coral heads to 60 foot walls and crevasses suitable for novice and experienced divers.
A large array or colourful coral, fish and shells make for excellent underwater photography. Toberua has its own resident PADI dive instructor and offers a full range of courses from introductory dives through to dive master qualification. Aqua Lung dive gear provided. Sea temperatures average 25-28 deg C 79-83 deg F.
Dive Sites
Shark Reef — Intermediate 40-70 feet
Shark Reef is home for white tip reef sharks. This site has many dramatic rocky coral overhangs, with some swim through giant coral archways. You can expect to see snapper and the occasional turtle.
Cakautabu - Beginner to Advanced 20-80 feet
Cakautabu means “scared reef” and it is a wonderful dive site. The dive starts on a giant coral head and moves onto a shallow wall. This site has a small cave and a swim through that ends on a beautiful coral garden. It is home to many white tip reef sharks, turtles, batfish and eagle rays.
Three Corals - Beginner to Advanced 30-45 feet
This is a shallow dive that has three gigantic coral heads. You have the chance to see all types of fish and a resident green sea turtle.
The Playground — Advanced 20-60 feet
This is truly a playground for divers offering all that is exciting. Home to a large number of reef sharks, morays and turtles. Many swim throughs, overhangs, caverns and caves. The site is covered with many beautiful seashells.
Bird Island Reef — Advanced 40-90 feet
This is a coral lover’s delight. The reef has amazing coral that stretches as far as the eye can see. You can expect to see white tip reef sharks, walu, baracuda, tuna and turtles.
Seafood Buffet — Intermediate 40-80 feet
Seafood Buffet is a miniature version of Bird Island reef. This site is a shallow slope that has an abundance of amazing coral. The site is has hundreds of different reef fish.
The Canyons - Intermediate to Advanced 40-100 feet
Huge coral heads at this site form interesting canyons that divers can explore. Depth at this site varies so you can spend time looking at the beautiful coral and reef fish at the tops of the coral heads, or you can go deeper and explore the exciting coral canyons.
The Wreck - Beginner to Advanced 20-80 feet
In 1920 the 300 foot freighter “Cardinia” sank in shallow water. The beginning of the dive explores the vast wreck. Then you go onto a maze of coral heads that have two fun swim throughs. You see some huge tabletop coral as well as white tip reef sharks and eagle ray.
The Big Tree — Intermediate 40-80 feet
This offers beautiful coral and glimpses of lobsters and fire dart fish.
Golden Circle — Advanced 30-90 feet
This is in the Motoriki Passage and is full of large and small sea life due to the currents. The boss lost his wedding ring here, hence the name of this golden spot. Trigger fish, turtles, white tip shark and if you're lucky maybe an old wedding ring!

PADI Discover Scuba Diving - F$190
An introductory dive experience that includes basic theory, a pool session and a sea dive accompanied by your instructor. This course allows you to dive with your instructor for up to 14 days. You must be able to swim and be at least 10 years old.
PADI Open Water Diver - F$770
This course certifies you as an internationally recognised scuba diver allowing you to dive anywhere in the world. The course involves theory; confined water and open water (4 dives in the open sea). You must be able to swim and be 10 years or over for junior certification and 15 years or over for full certification.
PADI Open Water Referral - F$540
If you only have time to complete part of the Open Water Course, we send you away with a form which enables you to complete the full course with another PADI instructor. Alternatively, do the theory and pool work at home and come to the warm tropical seas of Toberua to finish the 4 open water dives.
PADI Advanced Diver - F$640
This is the next step of PADI education following the Open Water Certification. This certificate takes you through specialised types of diving. You must complete 5 dives in total, including a deep dive and underwater navigation dive.
PADI Rescue Diver - F$690
The rescue diver expands on preventing emergencies and how to manage them. A rewarding and demanding course where you will learn self rescue, recognising and managing stress in other divers, rescuing panicked and unresponsive divers. This course also includes first aid skills. Allow 3-4 days. You must be at least 15 years old and a certified advanced diver, or similar certification and be trained in first aid within the last 2 years.
PADI Dive Master - F$1,850
This course is your first step in becoming a diving professional. Allow three weeks minimum to complete this course. You are required to attend a minimum of eight lectures and assist the instructor with other PADI courses, lead actual dives and complete assignments. Upon completion of this course you will have become a highly trained scuba professional.
